Jammu, March 22:
Police on Saturday said that a law and order situation emerged in Mattu Village, Khour, after the discovery of a calf’s head near a cremation ground.
In response to the incident, police promptly registered FIR No. 11/2025 under relevant sections of the law and initiated an investigation.
During the probe, it was found that a Holstein Friesian cow, owned by Sumit Choudhary, son of Suram Choudhary and a resident of Mattu, had delivered two dead calves. Rajeev Kumar, a trained Maitri worker from Khour Camp, assisted in handling the situation.
However, instead of properly disposing of the carcasses, Sumit Choudhary allegedly placed them in a plastic bag and discarded them in an open field near the Shamshan Ghat. Stray dogs later scattered the remains, leading to the discovery of the calf’s head in a public space. A search of the area also led to the recovery of additional remnants believed to be connected to the case.
Police officials confirmed to Sachnews that initial investigations, including veterinary reports, have ruled out any possibility of slaughter or deliberate mutilation. The investigation is still ongoing.
Further updates will be provided as the investigation progresses.
