Anantnag, June 19:
Former Shangus MLA Gulzar Ahmad Wani formally joined the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Wednesday, ending his association with the Democratic Progressive Azad Party (DPAP).
The joining took place in the presence of PDP President Mehbooba Mufti.
According to Sachnews Jammu Kashmir, Wani, who served as a Member of the Legislative Assembly from 2014 to 2018 on a Congress ticket, had joined DPAP, led by former Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad, in 2022. However, citing a renewed commitment to grassroots leadership and regional aspirations, he has now rejoined the PDP.
PDP President and former Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti personally welcomed Wani back into the party fold. In a post on X (formerly Twitter), she wrote:
“Extremely delighted to welcome Gulzar Ahmad Wani, former MLA and a highly respected figure admired by Mufti Sahab, back into the PDP. Known for his dedication and deep connection with the people, his return will undoubtedly strengthen our party, especially in South Kashmir.”
