Awantipora, September 08:
Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, accompanied by Health Minister Sakina Itoo, Advisor Nasir Aslam Wani, Chief Secretary Atal Dullo, and Secretary Health Dr. Syed Abid Rashid Shah, today visited the AIIMS Awantipora site to review the ongoing work.
Speaking to the media, the Chief Minister as per Sachnews Jammu Kashmir said that the site for the AIIMS project had originally been chosen on political grounds without fully assessing its suitability for a hospital.
He explained that AIIMS authorities were simply instructed to construct the hospital at the allotted site, and they began work accordingly.
He further stated that the project initially suffered delays due to certain security concerns raised by the Army, which required a fresh set of Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) to be prepared.
“It took more than a year to finalize the new DPRs. Naturally, with the revised plans, the entire project had to be restructured, which also led to some cost escalation. However, all those concerns were carefully addressed,” Omar Abdullah said.
The Chief Minister noted that work on the project has now gained significant momentum.
“Our intention is to have the project fully operational by December. Before that, in March–April next year, we plan to start the Outpatient Department (OPD). Academic classes will begin soon after, and by November–December, the Inpatient Department (IPD) is also expected to be operational,” he added.
