PULWAMA, March 23:
The Geology and Mining Department on Sunday seized two tractors involved in illegal mining and the transportation of minerals in the Wahibugh area of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district.
An official from the District Mineral Office Pulwama of the Geology and Mining Department told Sachnews that a team from the department, led by Supervisor Mohammad Ameen Padday, conducted surprise raids and checkpoint inspections at various locations in the Pulwama district, including Wahibugh area.
During these raids, two tractors engaged in illegal mining and mineral transportation were seized. The team also demolished ramps used by tipper drivers for illegal activities.
Officials informed Sachnews that the seized tractors have been handed over to Police Station Newa.
They further stated that the department has been on high alert throughout the month of Ramzan, with the entire team working tirelessly, day and night, to crack down on illegal mining in Lasipora, Wahibugh, Pampore, and other parts of the district.
“We strongly urge those involved in illegal mining to stop immediately; otherwise, strict action will be taken against them,” an official warned.
