Srinagar, March 30: In a significant reform measure to enhance public ease, the Government of Jammu and Kashmir has issued a notification announcing the complete remission of stamp duty on gift deeds executed within blood relations.
According to Sachnews Jammu Kashmir, The measure, introduced as part of Budget 2025, will come into effect on April 1, 2025.
Chief Minister Omar Abdullah shared the update in a social media post, stating, "As a reform measure aimed at public ease and as announced in Budget 2025, the notification for remission of stamp duty on gift deeds within blood relations has been issued. Come April 1, such land transfers between close family members will attract zero stamp duty in J&K."
Along with the post, Omar Abdullah also shared the official order issued by the Principal Secretary to the Government, Finance Department. Exercising the powers under Clause (a) of Section 9 of the Stamp Act 1977 (XL of 1977), the government has decided to remit the stamp duty for property transfers through gift deeds within blood relations. The remission is subject to the submission of any two documents specified in Annexure-A of the notification, verifying the identities of both the transferor and transferee.
According to the notification, the term "blood relation" includes the following family members:
