SRINAGAR, March 29: In a major announcement on the eve of Eid-ul-Fitr, Chairperson of the J&K Waqf Board, Dr. Syed Darakhshan Andrabi, has ordered an increase in the remuneration of Consolidated, Muster Sheet-based, and Stop-Gap arrangement employees who have been working temporarily on extremely meagre wages for decades.
The employees have been categorized into Skilled, Semi-Skilled, and Unskilled categories, with their monthly remuneration now fixed at Rs. 18,000, Rs. 16,000, and Rs. 15,000, respectively. This announcement effectively results in a 200% to 400% salary hike for these low-paid employees, some of whom have been earning as little as Rs. 3,000 per month, the Waqf Board spokesperson told Sachnews in a statement.
Regular employees of the Board, including Imaams, Khateebs, Pensioners, and Family Pensioners, will also benefit from a 20% salary increase.
Additionally, the teaching faculty at the Waqf-managed Bibi Halima College of Nursing and Medical Technology have received a 15% salary hike. Special allowances have been announced for employees assigned additional duties, and a monthly travel allowance of Rs. 3,000 has been approved for the Engineering Wing staff.
According to Waqf Board sources, this move is the result of the tireless efforts of the current Board, which has significantly improved the financial standing of the organization. The decision is aimed at enhancing the living conditions of over a thousand employees in the Kashmir Division who have long endured inadequate pay.
The decision was taken during a Board meeting chaired by Dr. Andrabi. Board members Dr. Ghulam Nabi Haleem and Syed Mohammed Hussain also participated, along with the Executive Magistrate of the Board, Ishtiyaq Mohiuddin.
