Srinagar, April 7: The All Jammu & Kashmir Lumberdar Association (AJKLA) convened a significant meeting today under the chairmanship of its President, Haji Bashir Ahmed Teli. The session was also attended by General Secretary Ghulam Hassan Mir, Secretary Bashir Ahmad Wani, Public Secretary Ghulam Mohi Din Bhat, and other senior members of the Association, official Spokesperson told Sachnews in a press statement.
During the meeting, the Association delegation met with National Conference President and former Chief Minister Dr. Farooq Abdullah, and Nasir Aslam Wani Advisor to the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah. The primary agenda of the meeting was to highlight and address the challenges currently faced by members of the Lumberdar community across Jammu and Kashmir.
President Haji Bashir Ahmed Teli presented a detailed memorandum to the dignitaries, outlining various concerns, particularly the recent confusion arising due to the unauthorized and newly appointed Lumberdars who, according to the Association, have not received any formal government orders. This, he stated, has caused significant misunderstanding between the public and government departments.
Speaking at the meeting, President Teli shed light on the historical role of Lumberdars in Jammu and Kashmir, emphasizing their unwavering service during times of crisis. "While high-ranking officials and rulers fled during periods of turmoil, it was the Lumberdars who remained on the ground, risking their lives to serve the people and maintain order," he said.
He also urged the government to immediately reinstate legitimate Lumberdars and ensure their due promotion to correct the longstanding injustices faced by the community. He reiterated that AJKLA is proudly affiliated with the All India Lumberdar Association, and that the voices of its members deserve attention and action.
In response, Dr. Farooq Abdullah and Advisor to the Chief Minister Nasir Aslam Wani assured the AJKLA leadership of their full support. They committed to addressing the grievances raised by the Association and promised to take the matter up at the appropriate levels to find timely and just resolutions.
"Inshallah, the issues of the Lumberdar parivaar will be resolved on priority," they assured.
The meeting concluded with a note of hope and determination, with the Association vowing to continue its efforts for the dignity, recognition, and rights of the Lumberdar community.
