Senior NC Leader Ghulam Nabi Shaheen Passes Away; Political Circles Mourn the Loss

Srinagar, April 22:
Ghulam Nabi Shaheen, a senior leader of the Jammu & Kashmir National Conference (JKNC), former Member of Legislative Council (MLC), and former Provincial President (Kashmir), passed away, leaving behind a profound legacy of political service and leadership. 

He was the father of JKNC State Spokesperson Sara Hayat Shah.

Sources told Sachnews Jammu Kashmir that the Namaz-e-Janaza is scheduled to be offered after Zuhur prayers at 2:00 PM at the late leader's residence in Umarabad Sector B (Peerbagh), Srinagar. 

The passing of Ghulam Nabi Shaheen has sparked a wave of grief across Jammu & Kashmir’s political landscape, with tributes and condolences pouring in from leaders, colleagues, and public figures.

Expressing his sorrow, JKNC Vice President Omar Abdullah wrote:
"Saddened to learn of the demise of Jenab Ghulam Nabi Shaheen Sahib — a senior @JKNC_ leader, former MLC, and former Provincial President (Kashmir). My deepest condolences to @SaraHayatShah on the passing of her revered father. May his soul rest in eternal peace and the family find strength in this hour of grief."

MLA Hazratbal, Salman Ali Sagar, also shared his grief, calling it a deeply personal loss:
"With a heavy heart and immense grief, this is to inform the passing away of Jenab Ghulam Nabi Shaheen, my beloved uncle. He was a senior @JKNC_ leader, former MLC, and former Provincial President Kashmir. He was also the father of State Spokesperson @SaraHayatShah. The family is still at the hospital, and the timing for the Namaz-e-Janaza will be announced shortly."

MLA Zadibal, Tanvir Sadiq, said:
"Deeply saddened by the passing away of Jenab Ghulam Nabi Shaheen Sahib — senior @JKNC_ leader, former MLC, and former Provincial President of @JKNC_ Kashmir. Heartfelt condolences to @SaraHayatShah and Yawar on the loss of their esteemed father. May his soul rest in peace."

MLA Pahalgam, Altaf Kaloo also conveyed his condolences, saying:
"Deeply saddened by the untimely demise of senior party leader and former MLC Jenab Ghulam Nabi Shaheen Sb. My heartfelt condolences to his family and loved ones. May Allah (SWT) grant him the highest place in Jannat-ul-Firdous. Ameen."

In a deeply personal tribute, Senior NC Leader Peer Mohammad Hussain Suharwardy wrote:
"I am in a complete state of shock, as I woke up to this heart-wrenching news of the unfortunate demise of my beloved brother, Ghulam Nabi Shaheen Sahab. This news has left me shattered. He was my colleague, mentor, friend, confidant — nothing short of a brother to me. This is not just a personal bereavement but a societal loss. So many years of our friendship and bond end in a minute. He will be deeply missed. My thoughts and prayers are with Bhabhi and my dearest @SaraHayatShah and @shahyawar786. May Allah grant us strength to bear this loss."

Apni Party President Altaf Bukhari also extended his condolences:
“My deepest condolences to the bereaved family of Ghulam Nabi Shaheen Sahib, a distinguished politician and former legislator who dedicated his entire life to serving the people of Jammu and Kashmir. May the Almighty Allah rest his noble soul in eternal peace.”

Political Activist Hashim Hussain and son of senior NC Leader Peer Mohammad Hussain Suharwardy also paid tribute:
"With a heavy heart, we mourn the passing of Ghulam Nabi Shaheen—my father’s dear friend, my uncle, and a true well-wisher. He was more than just a family friend; he was family in every sense. His warmth, guidance, and constant support meant the world to us. His presence brought comfort, and his absence leaves a deep void. We will forever cherish the memories and the legacy of kindness he leaves behind. You will be deeply missed, Shaheen Uncle. May your soul rest in eternal peace."
