Two LeT Hybrid Militants Arrested During CASO in Shopian; AK-56 Rifles, Arms and Ammunition Recovered

SHOPIAN, MAY 29:  Police on Thursday said that they have arrested two hybrid militants affiliated with the proscribed terror outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) during a cordon and search operation (CASO) in Baskuchan area of south Kashmir’s Shopian district.

Officials said that the operation was jointly launched by the Special Operations Group (SOG) Shopian, 44 Rashtriya Rifles (RR), and 178 Battalion of the CRPF, following specific intelligence inputs regarding terrorist movement in the area.

During the operation, troops observed suspicious movement in a nearby orchard. Acting swiftly and tactically, the joint team successfully apprehended two militants identified as Irfan Bashir and Uzair Salam, both believed to be operating as hybrid militants for the LeT, officials said. 

Recovered items include: 02 AK-56 rifles, 04 magazines, 102 rounds of 7.62×39mm ammunition, 02 hand grenades, 02 pouches, ₹5,400 in cash, 01 mobile phone, 01 smartwatch,02 biscuit packets, 01 Aadhaar card, they said. 

An FIR has been registered under relevant provisions of law, and further investigation is currently underway, officials added.
