Srinagar, June 7: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah extended heartfelt Eid greetings to the people of the region, the country, and Muslims across the world, expressing hope that the festival brings peace, brotherhood, and prosperity.
Speaking to reporters in Srinagar, Abdullah as per Sachnews Jammu Kashmir said, "On behalf of myself, my colleagues in government, and all members of my party, I convey my warmest Eid greetings. I hope this Eid ushers in better days for the people of Jammu and Kashmir, the Muslims of India, and Muslims around the world, and strengthens peace and communal harmony."
However, while conveying festive wishes, Abdullah expressed disappointment over the continued ban on offering Eid prayers at Srinagar’s historic Jamia Masjid.
“It is deeply unfortunate that once again, prayers were not allowed at the Jama Masjid on the occasion of Eid. I do not know the basis on which these decisions are made,” he said.
Referring to the aftermath of the April 22 Pahalgam attack, Abdullah acknowledged the public condemnation of violence by local residents. “These are the same people who came forward after the Pahalgam attack and condemned the violence, saying they do not support such acts. At some point, the government must place trust in its own people,” he added.
Calling for a rethink, Abdullah emphasized, “The authorities must reconsider such decisions. Denying people the right to offer Eid prayers at such a historic mosque is not a sustainable approach.”
