New Delhi/Srinagar, July 29:
Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Tuesday informed the Lok Sabha that all three A-category terrorists involved in the recent Baisaran terror attack in Pahalgam have been neutralised in a joint counter-terror operation codenamed Operation Mahadev.
The encounter, carried out in the Lidwas area of Srinagar, was jointly conducted by the Indian Army, CRPF, and Jammu and Kashmir Police.
The slain militants have been identified as Suleman alias Faizal, Afghan, and Jibran — all top operatives of the banned terrorist group Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT).
“These three terrorists — Suleman, Afghan and Jibran — who carried out the heinous terror attack in Baisaran valley, were eliminated in yesterday’s operation,” Shah said as per Sachnews Jammu Kashmir. He noted that all three were classified as A-category terrorists and were directly responsible for the killing of civilians.
The Home Minister further detailed the investigation process, stating:
“The NIA had already arrested those who gave them shelter. Those who fed them were detained. When the terrorists' bodies reached Srinagar, they were identified by those detainees as the ones who had carried out the Pahalgam attack.”
Shah also disclosed that a Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) report of the cartridges recovered from the Pahalgam terror site had already been prepared. “The rifles seized from the terrorists in the Lidwas encounter were sent for verification. Yesterday, further ballistic testing was carried out in Chandigarh, which conclusively matched the rifles with the cartridges used in the Pahalgam attack,” he said.
