Kathua, March 27:
Three police personnel have been killed in an ongoing encounter with terrorists in Safiyan village of Kathua district on Thursday. Two terrorists have also been neutralized while three to four terrorists are still holed up.
According to reports, five security personnel, including a deputy superintendent of police, have also been injured and are undergoing treatment at a hospital.
The encounter began on Sunday evening after credible intelligence inputs suggested the presence of 4-5 heavily armed terrorists near Sanyal village in Hiranagar. In response, joint teams from the Army, Border Security Force (BSF), J&K Police, Special Operations Group (SOG), and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) launched extensive search operations in the region, which have now continued for five days.
During the search, a significant cache of arms and ammunition, including M-4 carbine magazines and a bulletproof jacket, was recovered. Security measures were intensified, with the deployment of commandos, drones, sniffer dogs, and aerial surveillance using a chopper.
"Based on Intelligence Inputs, a Joint Search Operation was launched today (27 Mar 25) by troops of #RisingStarCorps & @JmuKmrPolice near Safiyan village #Kathua. Terrorists fired indiscriminately on own troops and heavy fire-fight ensued. Operation under progress," Army informed in a post.
