Death Toll Climbs to Three in Qazigund Accident as Injured Policeman Dies

Qazigund, April 5: The death toll in the tragic road accident near the Qazigund-Banihal Navyug Tunnel earlier this week has risen to three, after a Policeman, who was critically injured in the incident, succumbed to his injuries on Saturday.

Reports reaching Sachnews Jammu Kashmir confirm that the policeman, Showkat Ahmad, who had been battling for his life at a hospital in Srinagar, passed away after four days of treatment. He was among the three injured in the accident that claimed two lives on the spot.

The accident occurred when an MG Hector vehicle bearing registration number JK01AL-0707 lost control and skidded off the road near the northern end of the Banihal-Qazigund (Navyug) Tunnel. Two Shopian residents, Zubair Ahmad Wani of Heerpora and Mushtaq Ahmad Dalal, died in the crash, while three others, including Showkat Ahmad, were critically injured.

The injured were initially rushed to GMC Anantnag and later referred to a hospital in Srinagar for advanced treatment.
