J&K Govt Approves Free Additional Food Grains for AAY Households

Srinagar, April 2: The Government of Jammu and Kashmir has officially sanctioned the provision of free additional food grains to beneficiaries of Antyodaya Anna Yojana (AAY) households under the Public Distribution System (PDS). This move fulfills a key commitment made in the Budget 2025-26 and aims to enhance food security for the most vulnerable sections of society.

According to Sachnews Jammu Kashmir, the official Government  order states: 

Sanction is here by accorded for providing additional food grains, free of cost to beneficiaries of AAY households, under Public Distribution System, with the following norms:-

  1. This shall be admissible only in respect of AAY households under Public Distribution System. 

  2. Total Admissible allocation in respect of beneficiaries of AAY households shall be in such a manner that the entitlement under all the schemes in PDS, including NFSA does not exceed 10 kgs  per beneficiary in such households. 

  3. The Beneficiary wise additional allocation under the scheme shall be as under:


  4. Rice shall be provided in view of its availability under Open Market Sale Scheme (Domestic) scheme presently and same shall be provided free of cost to the eligible beneficiaries. 

  5. Finance department shall be authorized to provide additional budgetary support for implementing this initiative, to be recouped into respective Revolving Fund (Food grains) Accounts of both the directorates. 

  6. Both the directors shall utilize their Revolving Fund (Food Grains) Account, for meeting the financial requirements for this purpose after following formalities, prescribed for operation of Revolving Fund. 

It is further ordered that as and when the Department of Food and Public Distribution, Government of India, restarts the sale of wheat under OMSS(D), the department shall explore the option of providing wheat and wheat flour, with the approval of the competent authority.
