In a major safety enforcement drive, the Assistant Regional Transport Office (ARTO) Pulwama conducted an extensive inspection of school buses across several institutions in the district, resulting in fines totaling ₹62,500 for non-compliance with CCTV installation guidelines.
Acting on the directions of the Transport Commissioner of Jammu & Kashmir, the ARTO team Pulwama, inspected over 50 school buses for compliance with Supreme Court safety guidelines and recent directives, focusing on essential parameters such as: Presence of CCTV cameras, First aid kits, Fire extinguishers, Valid vehicle fitness certificates, Driver licenses, Overloading checks.
While the majority of schools were found to be compliant and equipped with necessary safety measures, a few institutions were found in violation, specifically for the lack of mandatory CCTV installations in school buses.
Consequently, spot e-challans were issued, and a total fine of ₹62,500 was imposed on the defaulters. The ARTO also issued strict warnings to the respective school authorities, asking for immediate compliance.
A final deadline of two days has been given to the erring institutions to install CCTV cameras in all operational buses. Officials have warned that failure to comply will lead to stricter penalties and legal action under the Motor Vehicles Act.
