Srinagar, April 10: Srinagar Police on Thursday carried out extensive search operations in Srinagar and Pulwama districts in connection with an ongoing investigation under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA).
The searches were conducted in case FIR No. 01/2024, registered under Sections 10 and 13 of the UAPA at Police Station Rajbagh, and were carried out following search warrants issued by the Hon’ble NIA Court Srinagar. The operations were conducted in the presence of an Executive Magistrate First Class and independent witnesses, ensuring adherence to due legal procedures.
According to a statement issued by the Srinagar Police, the raids were carried out at the residences of individuals associated with the banned Tehreek-e-Hurriyat organization. These included the house of Bashir Ahmed Bhat, alias Peer Saifullah, son of Ali Mohammad Bhat, a resident of Zadoora Pulwama (currently lodged in Tihar Jail), now residing in Rawalpora; and Advocate Mohammad Ashraf Laya, son of Ghulam Rasool Laya, originally from Jamia Qadeem Baramulla, currently residing in Old Barzulla, Srinagar.
During the search at the residence of Bashir Ahmed Bhat, incriminating material including books, letterheads, pamphlets, and letters related to the ongoing investigation were recovered and duly seized.
Srinagar Police reaffirmed its commitment to upholding peace and security across the region. "Any individual found promoting violence, disruption, or engaging in unlawful activities will face stringent legal consequences," the statement said.
The investigation into the case is ongoing, police said in a statement to Sachnews.
