Qazigund, April 1: In a tragic accident on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway (NH-44), two residents of Shopian lost their lives, while three others, including a policeman, sustained critical injuries in a road accident near the Ujroo Toll Plaza, on the northern side of the Banihal-Qazigund Tunnel, on Monday evening.
Reports reaching Sachnews Jammu Kashmir state that an MG vehicle bearing registration number: JK01AL-0707 lost control and veered off the road, leading to the fatalities and injuries. Eyewitnesses said that the accident occurred due to high speed, which contributed to the vehicle losing control.
The deceased have been identified as Zubair Ahmad Wani, son of Abdul Hameed Wani, resident of Heerpora, Shopian, who died on the spot, and Mushtaq Ahmad Dalal, son of Gh Mohd Dalal, resident of Shopian.
The injured were taken to GMC Anantnag, from where they were later shifted to Srinagar Hospital for advanced treatment. The injured have been identified as Irshad Ahmad Mir, son of Abdul Rehman Mir, resident of Shopian, Umar Bashir Najar, son of Bashir Ahmad Najar, resident of Bongam, Shopian, and SPO Showkat Ahmad.
Meanwhile, the police have taken cognizance of the incident and initiated an investigation
