Kulgam, August 04: The encounter in the Akhal forest area of South Kashmir’s Kulgam district has entered its fourth consecutive day, making it the longest-running anti-terror operation in Jammu and Kashmir so far in 2025.

Reports reaching Sachnews Jammu Kashmir that intermittent firing continued throughout Sunday, accompanied by multiple loud explosions heard from within the dense forest zone.

The encounter began on Friday evening, following a cordon-and-search operation launched based on specific intelligence inputs regarding terrorist presence. So far, one terrorist was killed on Day 2 (Saturday), but the identity of the slain terrorist remains unconfirmed.

Despite challenging terrain and thick forest cover, security forces have maintained a tight cordon around the area, deploying advanced surveillance equipment and drones to monitor movements. All entry and exit points have been sealed to prevent any escape.

On Saturday, Director General of Police Nalin Prabhat visited the encounter site to assess the situation firsthand and boost the morale of troops on the ground. His visit underscored the strategic importance of the operation and the high level of coordination among various security agencies involved.

As of Sunday, the operation was still ongoing, with additional reinforcements deployed in anticipation of a prolonged engagement. The possibility of a multi-day standoff appears increasingly likely, given the indications of multiple militants entrenched in the forested terrain.
