Anantnag, August 03: Ghulam Ahmad Peer (IAS), a distinguished former Commissioner Secretary and a widely respected resident of Seer Hamdan, Anantnag, passed away this afternoon after a brief illness. He was in his early 70s and had been battling motor neuron disease, a progressive neurological condition, for the past few years.
According to Sachnews Jammu Kashmir, G.A. Peer served the Jammu and Kashmir administration with distinction for several decades. Known for his integrity, administrative acumen, and deep commitment to public welfare, Peer held several key positions during his career, including Secretary of the Education Department and Commissioner Secretary of Social Welfare and other departments. His calm demeanor, principled conduct, and dedication to governance earned him wide respect across political and administrative circles.
His Nimaz-e-Jinaza (funeral prayers) will be held tonight at his ancestral residence in Seer Hamdan, Anantnag, where friends, colleagues, and well-wishers are expected to gather to pay their last respects.
Condolences have been pouring in from political leaders, retired bureaucrats, civil society members, and residents across the Valley. Many have remembered him as a gentleman officer who upheld values of service, honesty, and compassion throughout his life.
In a heartfelt message, J&K Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo expressed deep sorrow over Peer's demise.
"G.A. Peer was a committed and principled officer who served Jammu and Kashmir with distinction and dedication throughout his illustrious career. His contributions to public service and governance have left an enduring legacy. He will be remembered for his integrity, professional competence, and calm demeanour," Dulloo said.
The Chief Secretary extended his condolences to the bereaved family and prayed for eternal peace to the departed soul, offering strength to the family in this moment of profound loss.
