Akhal Kulgam Encounter Enters Day Three; Operation Still On

Kulgam, August 3:  The ongoing encounter between security forces and militants in the Akhal forest area of South Kashmir’s Kulgam district entered its third consecutive day on Sunday, marking it as one of the longest anti-terror operations in the region this year.

According to the Chinar Corps of the Indian Army, one terrorist was killed on Saturday, the second day of the operation. The identity of the slain militant is yet to be confirmed. 

Reports reaching Sachnews Jammu Kashmir that two to three militants are still trapped inside the encounter zone.

In view of the prolonged engagement, additional reinforcements have been deployed, and all entry and exit routes to the forest area have been sealed. Drone surveillance and advanced equipment are being used to track militant movements.

On Saturday, Director General of Police (DGP) Nalin Prabhat visited the encounter site to review the ground situation and interact with the forces leading the operation. His visit highlights the importance of the mission and the level of coordination involved between different security agencies.

The encounter began on Friday evening, after a cordon and search operation was launched based on specific intelligence inputs regarding the presence of militants in the Akhal forest of Kulgam.

As of now, the operation remains in progress, with security forces maintaining a tight cordon around the area.
