Rescue Ops Continue in Kishtwar; Boulders Blasted, Rope Breakers Installed; Power and Water Supply Restored: Div Com Jammu

Kishtwar, August 17: Rescue operations are continuing in the cloudburst-hit areas of Kishtwar, where teams are working round the clock to restore normalcy. 

Divisional Commissioner Jammu, Ramesh Kumar, said that massive boulders in the affected zone were blasted yesterday and efforts are underway to clear remaining debris.

He further informed that rope breakers have been installed amid fears that some bodies may still be trapped under the rubble. The Divisional Commissioner confirmed that both power and water supply in the area have been fully restored.

Additionally, with the support of the Army, work on constructing a bridge is in progress to reconnect the cut-off areas. He also stated that all passengers stranded in Machail were safely evacuated yesterday.

Meanwhile, in Kathua, heavy rain triggered a major landslide, leaving seven people dead. The Divisional Commissioner said that rescue operations are ongoing, with helicopters pressed into service to evacuate people from cut-off areas. He confirmed that the bodies of those killed in the landslide have been retrieved.
