Ganderbal, April 7:
National Conference President Dr. Farooq Abdullah on Monday said that discussions regarding the restoration of Jammu and Kashmir’s statehood would be held between the Chief Minister and Union Home Minister Amit Shah, distancing himself from direct involvement in the matter.
Speaking to reporters in Ganderbal, Farooq Abdullah as per Sachnews Jammu Kashmir said, “It is good that he (Amit Shah) is here. He will see how the conditions are over here and how our borders are. We hope that he will restore statehood soon. I will not speak to him; the Chief Minister will talk to him regarding statehood. I am not going to interfere with it.”
Reiterating hope for justice, Abdullah added, “We are hopeful because the world runs on hope. We are alive because of hope. We pray that our difficulties will be solved.”
Commenting on the controversial Waqf Act, the veteran leader said the National Conference is firmly opposed to the bill. “It is unconstitutional. There are parties in the Supreme Court against it, which is why the Speaker did not allow a debate on it. We are hopeful that the Supreme Court will serve justice,” he stated.
Abdullah’s remarks come amid Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s high-profile three-day visit to Jammu and Kashmir, his first since the formation of the Omar Abdullah-led government in October 2024.
