Bodies of Three Missing Civilians Found in Kathua's Billawar

Shopian, June 10:

On 23-05-2025, Hon’ble Court of Chief Judicial Magistrate Shopian, awarded punishment of Community Service to two individuals for committing theft.

The incident occurred in the territorial limits of P/S Zainapora on 31-07-2024. Two persons were found stealing the property of worth RS-5000 from the victim.

After completing all legal formalities, the accused were produced before the Hon’ble Court for the commission of an offence punishable under Section 303(2) of the Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023 in the above case

As part of the judgment, the offenders have been directed to perform cleaning at District Hospital Shopian for 2 days and 02 nights   as a form of community service. This action by the Hon’ble Court is a step towards promoting accountability and social responsibility through reformative measures in petty offences .

Shopian Police welcomes the decision of the Hon’ble Court, which not only serves as a deterrent but also helps in instilling a sense of civic duty among citizens. The police remain committed to maintaining law and order and ensuring a safe and responsible community environment.

Community Service has been introduced as a form of punishment under the new criminal laws, emphasizing reformative justice.
