Katra, June 3: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Friday expressed hope that the Union Territory will soon regain its statehood, asserting that the "correction" is inevitable and will come under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Speaking at a public event in Katra, Omar Abdullah reflected on his journey with key railway infrastructure milestones in the region, recalling his presence during the inaugurations of Anantnag Railway Station, the Banihal Rail Tunnel, and the Katra Railway Station.
“Was CM of a state, now of a UT — but this will be fixed soon,” he remarked, adding, “I believe the restoration of Jammu and Kashmir's statehood will happen, and it will happen through the hands of the Prime Minister.”
Omar also shared the stage with key figures including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh, and Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha — all of whom, he noted, were also present during earlier landmark events linked to Jammu and Kashmir’s development.
Calling it a matter of destiny and divine grace, Omar said, “It is Mata’s blessings that brought us all back together on this stage. Back in 2014, this very venue hosted the inauguration of the Katra Railway Station, and those same four people are here again.”
