Pulwama, Aug 6:
Around 400 kilograms of packed rotten meat was found recklessly thrown along the roadside near Pul Par Kadlabal, under the jurisdiction of Police Station Kakapora in South Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Wednesday.

According to officials from the Food Safety Department, unidentified individuals had hurled the decomposed meat on the edge of the road, causing panic among locals due to the foul smell and the potential risk of contamination. The incident reflects gross negligence and a serious violation of food safety norms by unknown miscreants.

Acting swiftly, a team led by Assistant Commissioner, Food Safety Pulwama, Hilal Ahmad Mir — in coordination with SHO Kakapora, Syed Showkat Ahmad, and other officials — reached the site and ensured the safe and hygienic disposal of the meat in accordance with standard protocols, officials told Sachnews.

Authorities have launched an investigation to identify and trace those responsible for the act. “This is a serious act of irresponsibility. The culprits will be identified and strict legal action will be taken against them,” said an official.

Speaking to Sachnews Jammu Kashmir, Assistant Commissioner Hilal Ahmad Mir said that over the past few days, the department has intensified pressure on those involved in bringing meat products from outside the region. “As a result of this pressure, we witnessed today’s incident in Pul Par Kadlabal, where packed meat was found thrown along the roadside. The concerned police station collected the material from the location, and it was safely disposed of by our department.”

He further stated that as enforcement efforts have intensified in coordination with the police, certain individuals, fearing action, have begun disposing of unlabeled or improperly stored meat themselves. “The pressure is now so strong that they are forced to destroy such material rather than face action.”

Mir appealed to the general public, particularly consumers, to report any concerns regarding food quality, unregulated or suspicious food businesses to the department. You can contact us through the toll-free number or reach out to our district or divisional offices. As soon as we receive any such information, prompt and appropriate action will follow. “If anyone has complaints about food items, they can call our toll-free number 104, which has already been shared via media. We will take immediate action on such complaints,” he said.

“This is a continuous and ongoing process. Just yesterday, we held a meeting under the directions of Secretary Abid Rasid Sahab and our Commissioner Madam, who have issued clear instructions for strict action against those operating unregulated businesses. We are committed to ensuring that only safe and hygienic food reaches our consumers,” he added.
