Pampore, September 01:
Idara Auqaf Islamia Trust Pampore held elections for its new executive body at Khankah-e-Aaliya Pampore in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district.

The election process was overseen by Ghulam Nabi Mir, Nazir Ahmad Mir, and Farooq Ahmad Bhat as election officers, with Jan Mohammad Sheikh serving as Election Assistant, according to Auqaf Committee officials.

Advocate Mohammad Maqbool Shah was elected President, while John Mohammad Sheikh was chosen as Publicity Secretary and Javaid Ahmad Khan as Secretary Baitulmal for the next two years. Nine other members were declared elected unopposed.

Publicity Secretary John Mohammad Sheikh told Sachnews that elections were held for 12 posts, of which three—including the President, Publicity Secretary, and Secretary Baitulmal—were contested, while the remaining nine were elected unopposed. The unopposed members include:

  • Haji Abdul Rashid Bhat as First Vice President

  • Abdul Sarar Laway as Second Vice President

  • Mukhtar Ahmad Tantray as Secretary General

  • Maqsood Ahmad Dar as Secretary Taimeerat

  • Manzoor Ahmad Dar as Secretary Tableeg

  • Ghulam Mohammad Shah as Secretary Central

  • Azmat Ali Durrani as Secretary Health

  • Advocate Ajaz Ahmad Khan as Secretary Education

  • Haji Ghulam Ahmad Bhat as Secretary Finance

Additionally, Haji Mohammad Shafi Basu was unanimously nominated as Naibi Sarparest of the Auqaf Committee.

The elected members will serve for two years, contributing to the functioning and initiatives of Idara Auqaf Pampore.

The election witnessed active participation from senior committee members and dignitaries, who highlighted the need for collective efforts for the welfare of the community.

Following the announcement of results, members of Idara Auqaf Islamia Trust Pampore congratulated the successful candidates, emphasizing unity and goodwill. The newly elected members were honored with garlands, marking a ceremonial beginning to their tenure.

Speaking to Sachnews Jammu Kashmir, President Advocate Mohammad Maqbool Shah said the election was conducted through secret ballot, with 92 of nearly 120 members casting their votes. He noted that while the winners secured a majority, those who did not win also deserve respect for their dedicated service to the Trust. He expressed hope that they would continue to contribute in the future.

He further highlighted the Trust’s priorities, stressing a dual focus on education and healthcare. He said the Trust has established schools to promote modern as well as religious education, and financial support will be extended to underprivileged children, even if they study outside Islamia School.

On healthcare, he said the Trust has already set up a diagnostic centre offering blood tests, USG, and ECG facilities. In addition, land has been purchased for a hospital under the Trust’s name, with construction expected to begin this year. The aim, he emphasized, is to ensure affordable health facilities for the public, particularly for poor patients who cannot afford medicines or diagnostic tests.

“The Auqaf will always remain dedicated to serving the people, especially the underprivileged, in both education and healthcare,” Shah said.
